Energy Skilled Recognized Certifications:

The certification programs below have been reviewed by DOE and also appear on the list of Qualified Certification Programs for  home energy auditors that taxpayers can use to claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) for home energy audits, per criteria specified in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Notice 2023-59.

Energy Skilled Recognition Guidance:

Featured below are the energy assessment occupations that are available for DOE-recognition in the Energy Skilled program, the related open-source content that any program is able to use, and the materials associated with recognition. Recognition materials contain key concept knowledge areas that outline the technical content required of recognized certification programs. The scoring criteria for the Home Energy Audit job scope are consistent with the most recent DOE led and industry-validated Job Task Analysis. The Single-Family Energy Auditor Job Task Analysis and Multifamily Energy Auditor Job Task Analysis were developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
