Jobs in residential building trades serve an important role in keeping occupants safe, healthy, and comfortable. They also have a significant impact on energy costs in a home. With the right training and certification, contractors can acquire the skills and knowledge needed to perform high quality energy assessments and work with new energy-efficient technologies. As you invest in training to advance your career, look for the Energy SkilledTM recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy. A credential that is Energy Skilled-recognized equips contractors to perform quality work with modern systems like heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. Set yourself apart from the field with an Energy Skilled-recognized credential to signal your commitment to people’s comfort, energy savings, and satisfaction.
Additionally, Energy Skilled-recognized credentials are highlighted as eligible for states to use their formula Training for Residential Energy Contractors (TREC) funding. This means that states will be able to provide low- to no-cost workforce training in pursuit of Energy Skilled-recognized credentials.
Further, states must create and maintain qualified contractor lists as part of their consumer protection plans required for implementing their rebate programs. While qualified contractor list criteria are still in development, Energy Skilled-recognized credentials are likely to be heavily featured.
