As you invest in training to advance your career, look for certification, licensure, training, and degree programs with Energy SkilledTM recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). A credential that is Energy Skilled-recognized equips contractors to perform quality work with modern systems.

Working with DOE and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Google has added the Energy Skilled badge to search results to help consumers find highly skilled home energy specialists. When the Energy Skilled badge appears in search results, it means that at least one technician employed by the business has completed an Energy Skilled-recognized training or certification program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question 1: I am a technician, and I want to pursue a certification or training that is Energy Skilled-recognized. What's my first step?

Answer 1: Find an Energy Skilled-recognized training or certification program for the fields below:

Q2: How do I get an Energy Skilled badge to appear next to my business's name in search results like Google?

A2: At least one employee must have completed an Energy Skilled-recognized certification or training program. The employee who completes the program must share their employer's information with the certification body or training provider. The credentialing organizations provide the names of qualifying companies to DOE. DOE in turn provides this data to Google and other consumer search tools. It typically takes up to 90 days for the Energy Skilled badge to appear on your Google Business Profile.

You are also welcome to mention on your website that at least one of your employees has completed or been certified through an Energy Skilled-recognized program; however, you may not use the Energy Skilled badge. The badge can only by used by recognized certification and training programs.

Q3: Why is my business not appearing as Energy Skilled in consumer search tools despite having qualifying credentials?

A3: As a first step, check with your employees to confirm they have completed one of the Energy Skilled-recognized credentials listed above and that they have provided current employer information to the credentialing body.

For Google, ensure that your business has a free Google Business Profile and that the correct business category is selected (e.g., HVAC contractor).

If more than three months have passed since your employee's information was updated with the credentialing body and the Energy Skilled badge is not appearing in consumer search tools, contact energy.skilled@pnnl.gov with your name and the name of the credential you have.
